Our History
The United Adaptive Soccer Association (UASA) was founded to bridge the gap in access to soccer opportunities for individuals with disabilities, addressing the unmet needs within the U.S. Soccer landscape. Emerging from the efforts of adaptive soccer pioneers and with support from initiatives like U.S. Soccer’s Innovate to Grow Grant, UASA has quickly become a unifying force in adaptive sports. It represents seven adaptive soccer pathways, while fostering a pan-disability community through various initiatives. Since its inception in 2023, UASA has hosted inclusive clinics and camps, cultivated partnerships with local and national organizations, and connected players, coaches, and referees through tailored training and accessible programming. By targeting underserved regions and removing financial and logistical barriers, UASA has created meaningful opportunities for hundreds of individuals to experience soccer on their terms.
UASA’s impact extends beyond participation numbers. Its work has redefined inclusivity in soccer, introducing adaptive training models and fostering cultural transformation within the sport. In just two years, the organization provided national pan-disability training events and furthered development of groundbreaking resources like the Disability Soccer Map and planning guides for inclusive events. UASA’s strategic leadership, driven by individuals with deep ties to adaptive soccer, ensures a sustainable and scalable approach to growth. By amplifying stories of adaptive athletes, aligning with major events, and advocating for equity at every level, UASA has established itself as a leader in creating an inclusive, empowering, and culturally transformative soccer experience for all.
